Climbing Mount Sinai Recording Session

Blumlein Miking Technique

Lead singer Austin’s guitar was miked with two AKG C414 XLII mics in Blumlein stereo position.

Blumlein Stereo Mics & Beyerdynamic M 160

Both guitars were recorded using multiple mics. This photo shows the AKG C12 and Neumann TLM 170 as a Blumlein pair. The Beyerdynamic M 160 is close miked where the neck and body meet.

Neumann KU100 Stereo Mic

Neumann’s dummy head mic was placed in the room to capture the audience perspective. Caleb is on “Roger’s” right; Austin (not pictured) is on his left.

Caleb Woo - Climbing Mount Sinai

Caleb plays second guitar.

AT 4033

The AT 4033 is used as a spot mic to capture the low end for this Climbing Mount Sinai session.

Multiple Mics

All four mics capture the full spectrum of sound for the Climbing Mount Sinai recording session.

Devin Wheeler Sound Check

Climbing Mount Sinai’s Austin looks on while producer Devin Wheeler attends to Caleb’s setup.

Pop Filter

A pop filter on lead singer/guitarist Austin’s vocal mic prevents plosives (Bs and Ps – the windy consonants).

Caleb Woo Jams

Climbing Mount Sinai’s Caleb tunes his guitar while jamming before the recording begins.

Singing Guitarist

Austin sings into a Neumann M 147 tube mic while playing. Neumann KM 184 points to the 12th fret.
